40 Year Old 1979
Girvan 40 Year Old 1979 vintage Lowland single grain Scotch whisky. Single cask refill hogshead #16642 distilled May 1979 bottled May 2019 by Hunter Laing & Co. for the Sovereign series. Selected and bottled exclusively for The Whisky Barrel. 291 numbered bottles. This golden whisky has a nose of blackcurrants, toffee apples and mint. The palate is mellow but sweet with notes of raspberries, blackberries and green herbs. The finish is long, with lingering spice. Girvan Distillery is a Scottish Lowland grain whisky distillery situated on the Ayrshire coast. It looks out to the island of Ailsa Craig the source of granite from which curling stones are shaped. William Grant and Sons Ltd opened this distillery in 1963 to supply grain whisky to their blends of scotch but with careful maturation in quality casks Girvan is also able to produce excellent single grain whiskies.

Cameronbridge 37 Year Old 1982
Cameronbridge 37 Year Old 1982 vintage Lowland single grain Scotch whisky. Single cask refill barrel #TWB1005 bottled 2019 for The Whisky Barrel ORIGINALS series. 164 numbered bottles. Nose: Roasted coconut caramel wafers, marshmallow, cinnamon sticks and vanilla pods. Taste: Coconut covered milk chocolate, marshmallows, vanilla ice cream, Super Crema coffee beans. Finish: Sweet vanilla, butteries and more roasted coconut. Cameronbridge Distillery was established by John Edington 1813 on the banks of the River Leven at Windygates in Fife in Scotland’s Lowland whisky region. By 1817 the distillery had passed to Philp & Haig. Two Stein’s continuous stills were installed in 1830 and Coffey’s continuous stills were added by the mid1880s. Cameronbridge produced both grain and malt whiskies until 1929. A small proportion of Cameronbridge grain whisky is nurtured by Hunter Laing in quality casks to produce aged, single grain and single cask grain whisky in their Sovereign grain whisky range.
