So now they’ve even found a nice Tormore? Just kidding, they all have beautiful expressions. It’s one of the latest bottlings from the Thompson Brothers, a UK exclusive if I’m not mistaken.
Tormore 28 yo 1992 (47,2%, Thompson Brothers 2020, refill hogshead, 285 btl.)
Nose: bags of yellow apples, mixed with paraffin and lemons, as well as some mineral oils. Some greener, leafy notes in the background, as well as some buttered dough. Dried flowers. It’s rather old-school with no modern oak and no blatant fruitiness either. Intriguing.
Mouth: oh, nice, rounder than expected and even more interesting. Still these apples but also peaches and gooseberries, generous waxy notes again, and some panettone. It also develops a light savouriness after a while, with chalky / earthy touches, even some wet paper. Lemon peel, a little vanilla.
Finish: long, more leafy with hints of tea, some leathery dryness but also fruity echoes and still a waxy note.
Great fun, this one. It combines roundness and austerity, old-style touches and so many more tiny elements. It keeps slipping through your fingers, so to speak, and that’s exactly what we like about it.
