Blended Malt 2001 (The Whisky Agency)

We’re already accustomed to (and grown fond of) these undisclosed sherried blended malts that have been presented by so many independent bottlers.

This one is a 2001 vintage from the Winter 2020 releases by The Whisky Agency.

Blended Malt 19 yo 2001 (45,8%, The Whisky Agency 2020, ex-sherry butt, 389 btl.)

Nose: quite fruity and rich, plenty of raisins and cinnamon cake, then butterscotch and marmalade. Red berries. A hint of mocha in the background, as well as a light earthy touch. Quite wide, clean and aromatic.

Mouth: more chocolatey notes now, as well as latte and walnut cake. Also hints of candied ginger and lots of black raisins. Light tobacco. A hint of leather and cinnamon again. Some blackberry or prune jam underneath. Pretty classic, with a good combination of darkness and fruity freshness.

Finish: medium, sweet, chocolatey. Cherries, plums and orange peel, with just a bit of modern oak in the very end.

A fine sherried dram, above all very drinkable because of the ABV. Chocolate and fruits, gentle pleasures. Very classic. Around € 100, I believe the last bottles are still out there.
